It is the first sheep's milk yogurt to be produced in Portugal. Serra da Estrela sheep farmers are betting on products derived from sheep's milk.
The freezer of Ancose - National Association of Sheep Breeders Serra da Estrela, based in Oliveira do Hospital, no longer guard only cheese da Serra. Now, also has sheep's milk yogurt.
There is a new range of products made from sheep's milk. In other countries, como a Bulgária, They are common. In Portugal, is the first time it is produced sheep's milk yogurt. But Ancose also bets on butter made from this milk serum, cream cheese spreads and cottage cheese.
These four products began to be tested 2008 by Anco technician John Madanela. “The purpose was to bring more people to the area of Serra da Estrela, ruffling a few feathers”, reveals the engineer.
The sheep's milk yogurt (Bordaleira the race and curdled by thistle flower) It has given in the sights and is different from others, for the best, John assures Madanela: “A yoghurt with the body, thicker, richer the nutritional level, a natural yogurt, sugar free.”
With so many attributes, “acceptance has been satisfactory”. “The marketing has been done here at the door and, in some restaurants in Lisbon and Porto, It looks good as dessert, with pumpkin jam and walnuts. And it is used in salads”, concludes.
Yogurts cost one euro each. This year has already sold two thousand yoghurt.
